Description
NAICS Code: 54199 The National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeks a student or recent graduate (an individual that has graduated with a BS or BA degree from a college or university within the past 2 years) to provide services under a contractual agreement to assist with Ecosystem Restoration studies, under the authority of 43 US Code Section 5d. The successful candidate will evaluate soil, sediment, and water characteristics associated with experiments designed to investigate the potential for enhancing water quality using state-of-the-art stream restoration techniques. The student will also assist in the development of approaches to stimulate microbial uptake of nitrate. The work is to begin approximately May 24, 2004 for a period of 15 months, with an option to extend performance for an additional 9 months for a potential total performance period of 24 months. The duty station is Ada, OK, and the work will be split between laboratory and field. The successful candidate must undergo a background and fingerprint check. The student shall have a recent (within 2 years) BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university, including two or more college courses each in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics (2.0 GPA or higher, based on 4.0 scale). The student will have experience operating scientific instruments including a spectrophotometer, nutrient autoanalyzer, muffle furnace, analytical balance, ball mill grinder, and soil sieving apparatus. The student must be familiar with the use of spreadsheet software including Excel and will be experienced with data entry and quality control. The student should also posses a demonstrable writing ability. A high level of ability to work independently is a necessity. Compensation is commensurate with the level of education and experience. The anticipated hourly rate is $13.76 per hour. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate, depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
