Description

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with C. W. Brabender Instruments, Inc., Hackensack, New Jersey. This contract is to procure a Farinograph E including WINFAR Software, Correlation Sofware and Micro-Mixer. The system is replacing an older model (10 years old) Farinograph manufactured by C. W. Brabender to test flour quality traits. It is critical that results generated are matched with results from the older model Farinograph. Both models use sigma type blades for mixing dough, the mixing chamber is temperature controlled and the results are reported as a Farinograph Curve that is not comparable to curves that are generated with other dough-strength measuring instruments. Research results generated over the past 10 years on dough strength characteristics of different wheat cultivars can be compared under similar mixing conditions.
