The Centers for Disease Control/Maternal & Child Health/Epidemiologist (MCH EPI) Program Reproductive, seeks to negotiate a sole-source service with Comforce Technical Services to recruit the most highly qualified Maternal & Child Health Epidemiologist. The MCH EPI Program in the Division of Reproductive Health, has designed positions to develop the next generation of MCH EPI Leaders at the local, tribal, major urban and state public health agencies. Based on a competency-based framework, described below are fundamental elements which the Program describes as requirements and expectations for all MCH Epidemiologists contracted for assignment in state public health agencies: 1. MCH Epidemiologist is expected to complete a variety of core and supplemental MCH epidemiologic activities (e.g., analytic projects, surveillance, program evaluation, scientific manuscripts, oral presentations, etc.); 2. Through these activities, MCH Epidemiologist is to develop critical competencies within the domains of epidemiologic process, communication, and professionalism; and 3. Increasing proficiency in these domains is essential to evolve as a Senior epidemiologist who is competent in the practical application of epidemiologic methods to contemporary public health problems. The specific work to be conducted in state public health agencies will be defined by the state public health agency with approval of CDC. Examples of potential research projects include but are not limited to 1) Using PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System) date to investigate risk factors for maternal and infant health outcomes;2) Using a linked Medicaid-birth certificate datasets to conduct longitudinal studies of birth outcomes and/or explore a variety of other issues, including whether medicaid should provide insurance for prenatal care for undocumented women; 3) Analysis of perinatal mortality in the state including GIS (Geographical Information Systems) analysis; 4)Development of Fact Sheets/Issue Papers for Five Year Needs Assessment; 5) Collaboration in revision of a Maternal Mortality Surveillance System.
