Description
NIDA intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Perlegen Sciences, Inc., of Mountain View, CA for a 1.5 million single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) whole genome scan to identify drug addition genetic loci in a well-defined, well-phenotyped drug addicted population compared to a well-defined, well-phenotyped control non-drug addicted population. We anticipate a 6-month contract for this requirement. Statutory authority to justify this procurement is 41 U.S.C. 253 (c)(1) as set forth in FAR 6.302-1, Only One Responsible Source. Perlegen Sciences, Inc. provides unique capabilities by possessing a dense haplotype map and a comprehensive set of 1.5 million SNPs distributed throughout the genome and available for association studies in the world. See Numbered Notes 22 and 26.
