Description
The National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, is seeking proposals to conduct a follow-up examination of the InChianti Study cohort. InChianti (Invecchiare in Chianti, aging in the Chianti area) is an innovative epidemiologic study of aging in the Tuscany region of Italy that has been designed to evaluate factors contributing to decline in mobility in late life. The baseline of the study was funded by the Italian Ministry of Health. The first follow-up took place 3 years after the baseline evaluation and was funded by the National Institute on Aging under the umbrella of the Instituto Naszionale di Riposo e Cura degli Anziani (INRCA, National Research Institute) in Ancona, Italy. The purpose this contract action will be to conduct follow-up examinations of the cohort at 6 years and 9 years after the baseline assessments. The follow-up assessments shall be performed on all surviving members of the InChianti cohort. The follow-up will repeat the interview and examination components of the baseline assessment and first follow-up assessments that are relevant to the goals of the follow-up. A six-year, cost-reimbursement type contract is anticipated, with an award made on or about October 1, 2004. The solicitation will be issued on or about February 27, 2004 and will close approximately 2 months after issuance.
