Description
NAICS Code: 5419 The National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking to obtain student services, for one student, under the authority of 43 US Code Section 5d. The student would provide services under a contractual agreement in support of the Agency's Pathogen Equivalency Committee. The successful candidate will assist with management of the new disinfection process applications including the need to perform the following duties: ? Providing written correspondence/verbal/E-mail to applicants ? Review and evaluate literature and ongoing processes ? Make recommendations on new technology requirements ? Maintain/update files, databases ? Respond to questions from headquarters, regional, state and local authorities relating to requirements for disinfection, vector attraction and performance of microbiological analyses ? Assist with other PEC related tasks: water reuse activities including the land application of effluents and manures, and examining the fate of pathogens in the watershed. The work is to begin approximately February 2004 for a 12-month period, with a possible period of performance extension through February 2006. The duty-station is Cincinnati, Oh. The student will normally be working in an office situation, 8-hours per day for a 40 hour workweek. Only occasionally it may be necessary to travel to a wastewater treatment plant or microbiological laboratory. Occasionally to, it may be necessary to assist with some microbiological analyses. The student contractor should possess a M.S. in Microbiology or Environmental Science with emphasis in microbiology. It is helpful to have experience with or knowledge of public health concerns with wastewater treatment processes and sewage sludge processing. The student should also have experience with doing literature searches either in the library or on the internet. Word processing skills will also be useful as will working with teams. Compensation is commensurate with the level of education and experience. The anticipated (FY 2003) hourly rate is $20.76/hr, but this rate may be adjusted for FY 2004. Non-U.S. citizens may be eligible to participate, depending on their immigration status and the applicable regulations of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS).
