- Description
- The U.S. Mint is planning to award a sole-source contract to SensAble Technologies for a three-dimensional modeling package. This system is comprised of a software package and an external device; the system enables users to experience 3-D graphics onscreen while they receive tactile feedback through the use of the haptic device attached to the user's workstation. Instead of using plaster, clay, and rubber to produce coin designs that must then be reproduced and reduced to the correct size for the coin die, this system enables users to produce coin designs on a computer screen, where the images can then be saved and forwarded to a CNC machine, which then creates the coin die. All images are produces in three dimensions, in real time, and at high fidelity.
