Description
The government is soliciting the submission of whitepapers from commercial sources for the following topic. The whitepapers should provide a description of the company capabilities in the topic area. Limit length of whitepapers to a maximum of 5 pages. Send whitepapers to Dr. Alex Cash, AFRL/MNMF, 306 W. Eglin Blvd., Bldg 432, Eglin AFB, FL 32542 or email to cash@eglin.af.mil. Topic: The Munitions Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory is seeking technical information on novel, compact (< ~5mm x 5mm x 3mm) and inexpensive semiconductor devices to be used as single-shot (sacrificial) turn-on switches for multipoint initiation studies and comparison to off-the-shelf devices. We are particularly interested in verifying the performance of switches that approach or exceed the technical performance (standoff voltage, single-shot maximum pulse current, turn-on di/dt, size, turn-on time and jitter, voltage-control) of the traditional Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Controlled Thyristor (MCT), while comparing favorably in initial small-lot costs. We seek brief responses to help identify commercial sources, off-the-shelf devices and particularly technical information on novel semiconductor device developmental efforts that are directed toward a component that is suitable for this single-shot switching application. This information will be used only for immediate planning purposes and an ongoing analysis of alternatives; it is a request for information and does not constitute a formal request for proposals, nor shall it be construed as a commitment on the part of the government. Technical points of contact are Dr. Alex Cash, (850) 882-2467, cash@eglin.af.mil or Mr. Ed Wild, (850) 883-0582, edwin.wild@eglin.af.mil.
