- Description
- The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) is seeking potential sources capable of fabricating complex research and development prototype articles such as rocket engines or motors and their respective components like engine injectors, rocket nozzles, motor casings, etc. The contractor will work from sketches, blueprints, and computer aided drafting files. Work consists of, but is not limited to: 1) planning the entire sequence of operations needed to accomplish fabrication of items using a complete range of conventional and unconventional machines such as lathes, milling machines, saws, drill presses, electronic discharge machines and computer numerical controlled machine tools; 2) fabricating and assembling special tools, jigs and fixtures to accomplish machining operations; 3) performing calculations of dimensions, tolerances and fits using algebraic and trigonometric formulas; 4) machining items to unusual shapes, unusual surface configurations, and close tolerances (.0001 inch); 5) working with various materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, copper, brass, mild steel, plastics and high temperature alloys. The NAICS code is 336415 with a SBA size standard of 1,000. An indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract is contemplated. Contract award is estimated to take place March 2004.
