Description
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the Department of Defense?s medical school and health sciences university intends to solicit for an assistant instructor and a co-course director. The contractor shall provide an instructional program in Anatomy/Cell Biology, Neuroscience I and II, Pathophysiology, and Health Assessment to nurse anesthetist, family nurse practitioner students and preoperative clinical nurses. At the end of training, students are expected to be qualified to practice in the clinical setting as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) and Certified Family Nurse Practitioners. The contractor shall work on a full-time basis from January 9, 2004 through January 8, 2005. This non-personal service contract will require the completion of specific tasks and contractor is required to work approximately 1250 hours. The contractor performing the instruction shall possess a M.D. and practical experience in instructing medical or graduate level students in Anatomy/Cell Biology, Neuroscience I and II, Pathophysiology, and Health Assessment; shall have a history of assisting and delivering courses, conducting review sessions and integrating basic science information as it relates to the clinical setting; demonstrate the expertise and ability to communicate the required course material in an effective and efficient manner; and demonstrate expertise and the ability to contribute to department and faculty programs. Contractor shall have the following responsibilities: PATHOPHYSIOLOGY (Winter Semester) primary duty: Co-Course Director, participate in preplanning meetings, set the agenda for the course, organize lecture schedule, review course objectives; attend classes (4 hrs X 16 classes); contact speakers; provide a minimum of 3 lectures with handouts; assist in proctoring, writing, grading and reviewing examinations (3 examinations with 150 questions); provide student counseling and remediation services; create folder for file of all class handouts, examinations, professor contact sheets, course syllabi, objectives, etc.; participate in debrief at end of semester; ANATOMY/CELL BIOLOGY (Summer Semester) primary duty: Course lecturer, assistant to course director: participate in preplanning meetings; provide a minimum of 10 one hour lectures with handouts; assist with teaching anatomy lab; assist in proctoring, writing, grading and reviewing examinations; provide student counseling and remediation services; assist course director as needed; NEUROSCIENCE 1 and NEUROSCIENCE II (Summer Semester) primary duty: course lecturer, assistant to course director; participate in preplanning meetings; provide a minimum of 4 lectures; assist in proctoring, writing, grading and reviewing examinations; provide student counseling and remediation services; assist course director as needed; HEALTH ASSESSMENT (Summer Semester): assist course director as needed; coordinate course material with an accepted anatomy/cell biology course and neuroscience presented in a graduate school of nursing; prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, etc., in the form of dissected materials or use of models to demonstrate the need for anatomic information; grade exams and evaluate student?s performance in the course in consultation with the course director; possesses an MD; present both traditional and cyber-enhanced lectures; contribute to an abstract and publication of a paper describing the collaboration between USUHS and the University of California at San Diego (UCSD); aid the course director in Anatomy & Cell Biology and Neuroscience I and II in planning and implementing these courses; attend GSN meetings as assigned and may be added to GSN or University committees but will participate as a consultant only an not as a voting member. This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in accordance with the format in subpart 12.6 the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12, Commercial Acquisitions and FAR part 13.5 supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the solicitation; proposals are being requested and a written solicitation will not be issued. The clauses listed are not all inclusive for the firm-fixed price contract and additional clauses applicable to the fixed price contract may be added at time of contract award or any other clauses the Contracting office deems applicable to the effort.
