Description
Contractor shall provide design, fabrication and installation of a Balloon Inflation and Launch Shelters (BILS). The National Weather Service (NWS) obtains upper- air data through the use of balloon borne radiosondes. The NWS releases radiosondes from a network currently comprised of 102 sites. Preparations for these radiosonde releases typically are performed in high bay inflation buildings and are approximately 22 feet wide by 30 feet long by 22 feet high with a 14 foot radome mounted on the top. Some NWS locations do not have enough open space large enough to support this type of conventional inflation shelter. In other locations, shelters must be mounted on rooftops where weight can be a problem. These conditions necessitate the immediate need for 1 BILS systems in the NWS Western Region, One (1) ground mounted unit at the NWS, Weather Forecast Office, 2242 West North Temple,Salt Lake City, UT. Bidders shall also provide bids for optional additional BILS systems located in the NWS, Eastern Region, one (1) ground mounted unit at the NWS, Weather Forecast Office, Charleston, 5777 Aviation Avenue, Charleston, SC and one (1) roof mounted unit at the NWS Forecast Office, Center for Environmental Sciences and Technology Management, 251 Fuller Road, Suite B300, Albany, NY. BILS systems are divided into two sections; an inflation compartment and a storage compartment. All work shall be in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal. The Government estimate for the project in Salt Lake City, UT is between $25,000 and $100,000 with delivery no later than March 19, 2004.
