Description
NA The Army is interested in the design and development of novel imaging methods to display highly realistic, computer generated, three-dimensional (3D) holographic images for potential application in ground vehicle design/development. Those 3D images should : 1) be visible and interactive without the use of human optical enhancements (3D glasses/goggles, tracking devices, etc.); 2) provide a unique and correct perspective for the viewer regardless of viewing position; and 3) maintain an effective high resol ution appearance of the displayed model (i.e., employ enough cameras, projectors, slices, mirrors, etc. so that the holographic image does not appear to jump when participants move their viewpoint or interact with the model). These capabilities will be so ught for two particular laboratory locations: 1) replacement of an existing ??????PowerWall?????? display with a vertical viewing area of 15 ft. wide by 7 ft. high. Functionality of the proposed display must be integrated with the existing GFE multi-medi a components currently used in the facility; and 2) a larger display capability should be capable of projecting a holographic 3D image on a vertical display area of at least 20 ft. wide and 9 ft. high and a horizontal display area of approximately 8 ft. by 12 ft. Both vertical and horizontal capabilities are required. Any solutions should be capable of being demonstrated operationally in a room size that is approximately 35 ft. by 55 ft. Any technology must be compatible with and be able to accept extern al computational and solid model data into the holographic image creation process, such as IGES, VRML and OpenGL formats. A description (if new development is planned) or identification (if existing software will be used or modified) of the software that forms the computer-generated hologram is necessary. Proposed solutions must address its inclusion in the current modeling environment which includes the use of Parametric Technology Corporation??????s application suite (Division, MockUp 2000i^2, ProE, Pro ductView, and WindChill) and Maya animation software. Proposed solutions must address any graphical computational resources necessary to self-sufficiently run the display devices and how, if necessary, they will interconnect with any existing graphical su percomputing resources.
