Description
DESC: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to negotiate on a sole source basis requirement with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) for a three-year contract to collaborate with Thailand MOPH- U.S. CDC Collaboration (TUC) to determine the efficacy of AIDSVAX B/E Vaccine in Intravenous Drug Users in Bangkok Thailand. The purpose of this Extension Study is to continue follow-up of participants enrolled in the Phase III, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of AIDSVAX? B/E (VaxGen, Inc. Protocol VAX003, CDC Protocol #2076; hereafter called ?VAX003?) as well as consenting HIV-1 infected participants (index cases) and their sexual partners enrolled in a VAX003 sub-study to evaluate HIV-1 infectiousness (CDC Protocol #3055; hereafter called ?VAX003 Infectiousness Study?). HIV-1 uninfected subjects who become HIV-1 infected during the Extension Study will also be offered follow-up as either an HIV-1 infected subject or HIV-1 infected index case. BMA is the only known Contractor with the history of working with this cohort, the unique capability, and highly specialized experience required to perform the required services in a timely and scientifically sound manner. No other contractor is known with extensive research experience with AIDSVAX? B/E vaccine trial cohort in this population and who possesses the current capability to satisfy the time requirements for this procurement. The anticipated award date is March 24, 2003.
