Description
NAICS Code: 541710 NAICS Code: 541710. THIS IS A POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is XN1800. The Agency has a requirement for a student to work within a multi-disciplinary research team and provide technical laboratory support for research projects that characterize the effects of chemical contaminants on aquatic organisms. The projects for which the student contractor is needed involves quantitative and qualitative determination of chemical binding potential to steroid hormone receptors of aquatic organisms as an indicator of chemical potential to disrupt endocrine systems. The student will be expected to assist in the preparation of cellular and subcellular fractions, incubation and culture media and buffer systems, and to assists in aspects of preparation and analysis of biological samples to confirm competitive binding, and mRNA and protein induction in tissue slices from aquatic organisms. All samples shall be prepared according to the technical requirements as specified in MED protocols or instructions provided by their mentor. The student contractor must be working toward, or recently completed a degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, ecology, toxicology, or environmental sciences within the past year, or be a graduate student in a relevant area of study at an accredited college/university. The student must be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety. The student will be given additional safety training at the Mid-Continent Ecology Division.
