- Description
- The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington Navy Yard, DC, anticipates awarding a sole source, firm fixed-price contract to Alliant Techsystems (ATK Tactical Systems), Elkton, MD for the manufacture, inspection and delivery of Initiating Propellant (Standard Grain) production units and samples (NSN: 1356-01-106-5985). These are required as replenishment spares to support the MK48 ADCAP Torpedo System. Based on the current funding profile and fleet requirements, it is anticipated that a maximum number of one thousand five hundred (1,500) Initiating Propellant production units and associated services will be procured to address FY2004 requirements. It is anticipated that these replenishment spares will be ordered in stepladder quantities of 500, 1,000, or 1,500 units. The contract also anticipates a period of performance of 1 base year with 4 one-year options, with a maximum quant ity of 1,500 units being produced each option year through FY2008. As the current producer of Initiating Propellant for the US and selected Foreign Military Sales (FMS) customers, Alliant Techsystems is currently the only qualified producer of this item for the MK48 Torpedo System. Additionally, the contractor has the design familiarity, proven vendor base, demonstrated production processes and existing facilities and tooling required to meet the Navy's current and future Initiating Propellant requirements.
