Description
Repair/upgrade VG70-250SE double focusing, high resolution mass spectrometer. 1. Site visit to restore instrument performance. The VG 70-250SE analyzer region and flight tube need to be stripped, thoroughly cleaned, and reassembled. Replace gold seals and diffusion pump oil as required. Performance will be demonstrated by the following specifications: [1] Demonstrate minimum resolution of 25,000 [10% valley definition] in the EI mode of operation, using the standard EI/CI source, with detectable signal to noise [S/N] ration greater than 3:1; [2] at 10,000 resolution [10% valley definition] in the EI mode, using the standard EI/CI source; and [3] GC/MS sensitivity at 1000 resolution [10% valley definition] and scanning at 1 second/decade over the mass rane 500-50-500 with the standard EI/CI source, in EI mode of operation, 400 pg of methyl stearate injected onto the capillary column, to give a GC peak 3 seconds wide at half height, will yield a S/N ration greater than 100:1 on the molecular ion [298]. 2. Install water bypass valves to provide in-house water in place of existing instrument chiller water, when there is a power failure. Includes solenoid valves, fittings, and labor as required. 3. Replace the direct insertion probe with a functioning probe with temperature control. 4. Make the system Y2K compliant. Update license and upgrade computer software of PDP11 computer to RSX11M+ version 4.6 5. Increase hard drive capacity of PDP11 to at least 16 Gbytes accessible disk space. Upgrade to a 11/83 processor with private memory interconnect [PMI] to speed data processing. 6. Upgrade instrument to permit data transfer and storage of files from the existing PDP11 computer to an Environmental Chemistry Branch [ECB] furnished, networked personal computer, and National Exposure Research Laboratory - Las Vegas [NERL-LV] external disc drives. File transfer program [FTP], Telnet, and additional network cards required. Quote shall include work costs, airfare, car rental, meals, and residence costs for a maximum of 7 days on site.
