Description
The mission of the Mine Safety and Health Administration carries out the mandates of the Mine Act at all mining and mineral processing operations in the United States, regardless of size, number of employees or commodities. As part of this mission, MSHA has need of the ability to measure exposure to potentially harmful levels of respirable coal mine dust. This will allow the user to determine when engineering controls are functioning to control the levels of respirable dust, when action must be taken to prevent overexposure, and at what point during a working shift unacceptable levels of respirable dust occurred so that the control system can be adjusted to prevent future exposure. In order to facilitate the gathering of this information, the Directorate of Coal Mine Safety and Health has a need to purchase 10 PDM-1 Personal Dust Monitors, manufactured by Rupprecht & Patashnick, of Albany New York. Rupprecht & Patashnick (R&P) hold patents on the only existing technology that allows for the continuous determination of respirable coal dust in real time. The PDM-1 will be purchased on a sole-sources basis with Rupprecht & Patashnick (R&P). Telephone request will not be accepted. Offerors are not being asked to submit capability statements as part of this announcement. Any response should be received on or before August 29, 2003.
