- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Telonics, Inc932 East Impala, Mesa, AZ 85204. The proposed contract is for TGW-3580-GPS Collar Store-on-Board Unit with ARGOS uplink. VHF Beacon, MS6 Mortality Motion Sensor, Standard Collar, CR-2A Breakaway Collar Release and Cast-4 Protective Casting. Telonics Inc. builds this particular type of GPS collar specifically for use on bighorn sheep. The collars have a unique satellite-uplink feature that will allow immediate access to the location data (verses a two-year wait until end of the study when information can be downloaded from the collar). This is a critical feature for the study. Equipment compatibility is critical for the success of this project. Other manufacturers make telemetry equipment, but compatibility with equipment from another vendor is uncertain. Using another vendor would result in having to purchase new receivers. An important and unique feature of this telemetry equipment is that all memories used to store data on board the system are totally nonvolatile and do not require any battery backup, ensuring that the data are secure even after years of storage. Teleonics equiipment has tested reliability and durability; transmitters rated as lasting 2 years frequently last up to six months longer than anticipated. Equipment failure is unusual. THIS NOTICE IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE PROPOSALS. Information will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Determination to compete this requirement is solely within the discretion of the Government; no additional synopsis will be published.
