Description

Sandia National Laboratories has developed a numerical well-test analysis code, nSIGHTS, which analyzes transient pressure and flow-rate data to estimate hydraulic parameters of interest, such as transmissivity, storativity, flow geometry, etc. It also allows for sophisticated statistical evaluation of uncertainty in the parameter estimates, a process aided by extensive graphics capabilities . It is based on numerical methods in turn based on graph theory for transient pressure calculations, allowing simulation/analysis of tests performed under non-ideal conditions. Simulation capabilities include flow and pressure responses in complex systems with variable hydraulic parameters and/or flow geometry, temperature effects, borehole closure, variable wellbore storage, complex pressure histories, and variable pumping rates.It can be run on a PC with a Windows operating system. Areas of practical application include water resource evaluation, groundwater remediation, groundwater development, and oil and gas exploration and production. Sandia is seeking partnerships with industry as well as universities to commercialize this technology and/or further develop its use in the educational field as a training tool.
