- Description
- NOAA's National Ocean Service's Office of Coast Survey requires an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for hydrographic surveying. The basic requirement is for a vehicle capable of acquiring vertical beam echosounder data of the AUV's vertical position in the water column from both the surface and the sea floor (bottom), high resolution side scan sonar imagery, velocity of the AUV through the water, and conductivity, temperature, and depth data while operating independently from it's mother vessel. The vehicle must be sufficiently robust to be operated and maintained in the field by relatively inexperienced technicians and as such NOAA requires that the AUV be a commercial-off-the-shelf product. Minor modifications to a standard package to customize its sensors to meet the NOAA requirements are acceptable, but a completely new designed package to meet the requirements is not acceptable.
