Description
This sources sought synopsis is an proposed unrestricted acquisition, which is issued under Solicitation Number CS-I-03-016. This procurement is for an analytical X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis system. It will be used to identify the composition of solid materials that may be individual chemical compounds or complex mixtures thereof. Such materials shall include, but are not limited to rocks, minerals, inorganic and organic chemicals, ceramics, glasses, and metals. Samples of such materials will usually be in the form of fine powders, but they can also be in the form of wires, sheets, and irregularly shaped objects. The system will be based on a theta-theta/theta-2theta X-ray diffractometer. The system must also have the capability of identifying individual particles as small as 1 millimeter in diameter as well as selected areas or portions of articles that must be analyzed and identified in a non-destructive manner. This will be done with modules that includes a 2?dimensional (2-D multiwire proportional counter) X-ray detector, a sample stage that can hold specimens weighing up to 10 kilograms and movements of plus or minus 50 millimeters in the X, Y, and Z directions. A computer-controlled laser video alignment module will be provided for sample viewing, imaging, automated positioning in the X, Y, and Z directions, and automated system alignment. The sample stage and laser alignment module must be usable with both the conventional as well as the 2-D detectors. The system will include parallel beam optics accessories to minimize effects of sample position. The X-ray optical components will be of the pre-aligned, ?push-plug? type. The operation of all modules will be integrated. Delivery of the entire system shall be made FOB destination inside the consignee?s premises within 120 calendar days after the contract award date. Delivery shall be made to the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection laboratory located at 630 Sansome Street, Room 1407, San Francisco, California 94111. The contractor, consistent with industry practices, shall provide the standard commercial warranty for the equipment. This is a sources sought notice and not a request for proposal. All interested parties must contact Beverly Tyree before the closing date of this notice to be considered for this proposed procurement. The requestor must provide written or e-mail, but no telephone requests to this notice before the closing date.
