- Description
- The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), (DHHS) through the Program Support Center has a twelve (12) month simplified acqusition procurement described as follows: CMHS objectives are to provide technical assistance and consultation requested by local providers and other federal and state agencies, especially, but not only the ORR grantees providing preventive mental health and other related human services; to develop training programs and educational modules on refugee mental health and social adjustment issues; and to maintain collection of resources on refugee mental health issues, programs and expertise. This CMHS/ORR Entertainment Industry Roundtables with a focus on ?Trafficking in Persons,? is a pilot program and includes several components. Specifically, it is a public awareness campaign focusing on media portrayal of ?Trafficking in Persons? and provides presentations to students in Departments of Communications/Film at Colleges and Universities to continue the educational process. CMHS/ORR is looking to societal influences through educational messages. This pilot program will raise awareness with public and non-governmental organizations, and will broaden the scope of outreach through mass media venues in an effort to access and educate the general public. Trafficking in Persons, also known as ?human trafficking,? is a contemporary manifestation of slavery. Around the world, as many as 700,000 people each year, primarily women and children, are being trafficked for the purpose of forced commercial sex or slavery. This illicit practice has not eluded the United States, where thousands of foreigners - legal and illegal - struggle behind closed doors against their will as prostitutes, factory workers, domestic servants, and migrant agricultural laborers. Congress found that thousands of women and children each year are trafficked into the United States for such purposes. All firms interested in being considered for this potential acquisition shall submit a written request for a copy of the solicitation to the above address by 3:00 PM EST July 31, 2003. E-mail and fax are accepted.
