- Description
- Engineers at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) have developed a special weighing lysimeter that is capable of accurately measuring very small changes in the mass (.01gms) of large porous bodies up to 300kg in weight. The highly accurate weighing lysimeter incorporates a beam counter balance design and was developed to measure water absorption in fractured rocks or other geologic media. A combination of mechanical and electronic sensors measure the inflow and outflow of water or other environmental variables over a suspended specimen and instantaneously measures absorption. A full scale prototype has been built and is operational. The INEEL is soliciting a joint collaboration with manufacturers of weighing equipment to explore licensing and commercialization interest and opportunity.
