- Description
- NASA/GRC has a requirement for Silicon Carbon (SiC)wafers. This effort will be performed using a proprietary crystal growth process. NASA/GRC intends to purchase the items from Cree Inc., Durham, NC using "Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy requirements". As only Cree Inc. has the proprietary crystal growth process to produce high purity (low vanadium content) 50 mm diameter 4H-SiC semi-insulating wafers and precisely-doped SiC homoepitaxial layers to produce the wafers. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on July 17, 2003. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. This is not a competitive announcement; it is a sole source procurement. Please do not request a copy of the solicitation - No competitive solicitation will be issued as a result of the announcement. If the Government decides that this work will be competed, a competitive announcement and accompanying solicitation will be issued at that time. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
