- Description
- Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Canadian Scientific Submersible Facility (CSSF) for the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). Purpose of proposed procurement is to provide the submersible Remotely Operated Platform for Ocean Science (ROPOS). Submersible will be used to place seafloor samples at the undersea observatory at Axial Volcano lying 270 miles west of Oregon state. Total dive days for the submersible is four days plus one standby day during period 8/27/03 - 9/8/03. NOAA will also pay 50% of the cost for cranes, personnel and other services to mobilize and demobilize the system on the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. The ROPOS is being used in collaboration with Canadian scientists funded through the Canadian National Science and Engineering Council.
