Description
The Association of Old Crows will sponsor the Fifth Annual Space and Air Protection Conference 19-20 August 2003 at the Aerospace Corporation, Los Angeles, California. The classification of the conference will be SECRET, U.S. Only. The chairman will be Dave Hilland, Air Force Research Laboratory. The keynote address will be given by Lt Gen Brian A. Arnold, USAF, Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center. Before the three conference sessions, Dr. Alok Das, AFRL/VS, will provide the status of the Transformational Communications Study. Conference Session I will address Protection Studies and Assessments and will include papers on: DCS Protection Technology Thrust (Dr. Lou Blackwell, AFRL/VSS); Space System Vulnerability Assessment - Preliminary Results (Dr. Craig Lindsay, Aerospace Corp.); Vulnerability Assessment Team Results (Capt Mathew J. Budde, USAF, SMC/AD); Defensive Counterspace Military Utility Analysis (Mr. Brian Landis); Protection Process Development - A Holistic Approach (Maj Bradley Hawk, AFSPC/DRC, James Rochier, Aerospace Corporation); and Counterspace Technology Needs - IPP Pathfinder status (Maj Eric Spittle, AFSPC, Capt Lance Adkins, SMC/CA). Session II will address Situational Awareness and will have the following topics: Recent Technology Advances (or Results) Using Satellite as a Sensor Abnormality/Attack Detection (Dr. Chris Tschan, Aerospace Corporation); MSTRS Results from Space Shuttle Columbia (Patrick Serna, AFRL/VSSE); Laser Warning Cookbook: Space Sensor Requirements and Technology Gaps (Steve Wirick and Dr. Elizabeth Beecher, AFRL/SNJ); and SABER 3 Design and Testing (Patrick Serna). The final session will cover Space Protection Technologies and Programs and will include briefings on: Space Electronics Overview (Maj Tony Kadrovach, USAF, AFRL/VSSE); Nuclear and Natural Radiation Belt Remediation (Capt Aaron Metz, USAF, AFRL/VSSV); Belt Remediation Physics (Dr. Greg Ginet, AFRL/VSB); Jamming and Damage Protection of EO Sensors (Gerard Simon, AFRL/MLPJ); RF Link Protection (Mr. Jim Johansen, MITRE); Laser Effects Testing for Model Correlation (John Frisbie, AFRL/VSSE); Reconfigurable Spacecraft Architectures (Scott Tyson, AFRL/VSSE); RF Effects on Satellites Simulation (Gary Liechty, AFRL/VSSE); Exo-Atmospheric Nuclear Burst Scenarios for Evaluating Satellite Survivability (Bob Greaves, AFRL/VSSE); Progress in Plasma Shielding for Satellites (Stephen Lucero, AFRL/VSSE); and Status of AFRL Satellite Nuclear Radiation Codes (Pat Helles, AFRL/VSSE).
