Description
General Requirements: 1. All debris shall be disposed off base. 2. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, materials, tools, transportation, etc, necessary to accomplish the work. 3. Any damaged or demolition areas shall be restored to match the existing construction as closely as possible. 4. The work area shall be kept reasonably clean at all times. The Contractor shall perform a complete cleanup of the work area at the end of the contract. 5. The dimensions given are approximate. The Contractor shall verify exact dimensions. Specific Requirements: 1. The Contractor shall install a vehicle gate across Hale Drive. The new gate shall be located 130' south of the Hale Drive/Kelly Road intersection. The road is approximately 25' wide here. A drawing of the gate is attached. The new gate shall be similar to the vehicle gate across Trinity Avenue near Building 800. 2. The Contractor shall install each gate post approximately 2' from the edge of the asphalt pavement. The posts shall be set into a concrete foundation as shown on the drawings. The new gate shall consist of two swinging leafs of equal length. The gate shall be centered directly over the pavement centerline. Both gate leafs shall swing at least 90? in each direction. The Contractor shall install reflective yellow tape on both sides of each leaf. The gate shall be painted dark brown. Each gate leaf shall have a locking rod and a support device for the rod when the gate is being moved. The locking rods shall be located on the south side of each leaf. The rods shall be of the appropriate length necessary so someone on the north side of the gate can easily reach over the gate and operate the rods. Each leaf shall have handles on both sides of it. When in the closed position, the gate leafs shall be about 1" apart. All the joints in the gate leafs shall be continuously welded. Install two hinges for each leaf, and grease all hinges. The Contractor shall ensure that the gate posts are vertically plumb. The Contractor shall ensure that the top rail of each gate leaf is completely level in the horizontal direction. Also, the top rails of both leafs must match elevations with each other. The gate shall be located at a 90? angle to the road. The bottom of each leaf shall be about 4" above the pavement. The top of each post shall be capped, and shall be 4" higher than the top rail of the gate. 3. The Contractor shall drill two holes into the asphalt pavement to accommodate the locking rods when the gate is fully closed. The holes shall have a metal sleeve inserted into them, and shall be installed flush with the pavement surface. 4. The Contractor shall install a 5-strand barbed wire fence on each side of the gate. The fence shall start about 2' away from each gate post, and shall extend for a distance of 50' straight out on either side. The fence posts shall be spaced at 10' intervals. 5. The Contractor shall provide shop drawings for the gate, fence, and concrete foundation to the Contract Administrator for approval prior to starting work. 6. The Contractor will be provided with a digging permit. The Contractor shall contact the organizations listed on the permit prior to the start of work. Hale Drive shall remain open to vehicles during the work period. There will be a site visit on 23 May 2003 at 0900. All interested parties must meet at the Visitor's Center 15 minutes prior to the site visit to obtain passes and to be escorted to the site.
