Description
This project is located in the North Fork of American Fork Canyon on the Uinta National Forest. The work site is referred to as the Bog Mine and is located in a remote area of Mineral Basin. This project will treat a mine waste rock pile that has elevated concentrations of heavy metals including lead, zinc, iron, cadmium, etc. An EE/CA has been prepared for this project, available at the Uinta National Forest Supervisor?s Office, addressing the health concerns related to the heavy metals and the removal action to be implemented at the mine site. This project consists of expanding an existing borrow area, installing a temporary stream crossing including erosion control features, reshaping a mine waste rock pile, removing small piles of mine waste from the Iron Bog, covering the reshaped waste pile with 30 inches of borrow material, repairing a concrete barrier blocking access to the mine tunnel, spreading topsoil salvaged from the borrow area over the borrow area, installing a rock barrier between the borrow area and Mineral Basin Road, furnishing and installing an interpretive sign, and applying seed, fertilizer, and mulch to the disturbed areas. Some repairs to the main access road will be required to accommodate the contractor?s use. Contractor will be responsible for the disposal of materials. 40 hours of Hazwoper Training, with current certification, will be required for all personnel working on site at this project because of the heavy metal concentrations in the waste rock pile. This will apply until the mine waste pile is completely covered with soil and ready for seeding. The project has a Government estimate between $25,000 - $100,000. 100% payment bond or Irrevocable letter of credit is required after award. The approximate posting date for the solicitation and applicable drawings / maps will be 26 June 2003 to this same website. There will be a show-me trip on 8 July 2003 @ 10:00 a.m. This is the only time the site is available to visit ? plan accordingly. Those interested will meet at Little Cottonwood Canyon at the second scenic overlook located 1 1/4 miles above the Tanner Flat Campground at 10:00 a.m. We will travel in convoy from there through Snowbird Ski Resort into upper Mineral Basin in the North Fork of American Fork Canyon to the job site. Four wheel drive vehicles will be needed and the tour will last into the late afternoon. The start date for project is anticipated to be 11 Aug 2003 with a period of performance approximately 30 days. *****
