- Description
- The Atmospheric Early Warning System (AEWS) program office at Hill, AFB UT is currently investigating the option to replace the AN/FPS-124 Short Range Radar which provides low-altitude tracking and surveillance coverage for the North Warning System (NWS) in Canada and Alaska. The FPS-124 is considered a "Gap-filler" for the FPS-117 Long Range Radar and operates in an unattended, remotely controlled environment. Due to aging and obsolescence issues, market research is underway to determine if there is a suitable replacement for the FPS-124. At this point, it shall be noted that no funding is currently available to fund a replacement. We are only interested in knowing what options are available to us. Multiple considerations must be made in order to comply with current NORAD requirements as well as have an understanding of the Arctic's harsh environment in which these radars operate. Attached is a specification sheet for the FPS-124 Radar. These are the basic requirements, however, staging, installation and set-up cost will also be a factor. All those interested in replying to this request please contact the FPS-124 System Engineer at Hill AFB.
