Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is seeking an individual to serve as the Senior Scientific Advisor to the Director, Office of Minority Health Research Coordination (OMHRC). The mission of the OMHRC is to: 1) identify the disparities in disease areas of interest to the Institute and advise the NIDDK Director of the disparities; 2) analyze and assess the magnitude of disparity or problem areas; 3) confer with the Institute?s Division Directors and Program Staff regularly to discuss disease areas identified with significant disparities that need to be explored, discuss options, and participate in initiative development; 4) provide assistance to the Program Staff of the respective Divisions for expeditious development and implementation of relevant initiatives; 5) develop collaboration with other NIH offices, centers, and Institutes in developing plans and funding in areas of significant disparities of mutual interest; 6) work closely with the Divisions to seek and facilitate co-funding by appropriate NIH Institutes, centers, and offices; 7) track and evaluate the progress of newly established initiatives; 8) interact with Program Staff in development of initiatives to train new and young investigators who are underrepresented in biomedical research; 9) track and evaluate the Institute?s progress in training and underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities in biomedical research; 10) interact with minority research communities and elicit their input in defining and developing appropriate and relevant initiatives to close the gap; and 11) utilize knowledge of an array of information sources to access existing materials and develop analyses for such diverse purposes as background information to assist in the preparation of the NIDDK Director and other officials for testimony before Congressional Appropriations Committees, responses to NIH/HHS requests, responses to public/congressional requests, and responses to requests from nongovernmental organizations in areas relevant to special populations. The minimal educational requirement is a Master of Public Health in Health-related fields. The preference is terminal degree, i.e. Ph.D. in health-related field or M.D. The experience requirement shall have a minimum of two-year experience in clinically related work. The major duties and responsibilities will be included in the Request for Quote (RFQ). The service will be for a Base Year with four (4) option years. All responsible 8(a) and Small Businesses that are capable of providing the Government with the services described above may request a copy of the Request for Quote (RFQ) in writing or by FAX to 301-480-4226 to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. It is anticipated that RFQ NIH-NIDDK-03-923 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is July 15, 2003.
