- Description
- The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, intends to enter into a single source contract with Caliper Technologies Corporation, Mountain View, California. This contract is to procure the AMS 90 SE System, which is a chip-based, automated electrophoresis system for DNA fragment analysis, including software and a HT DNA 5000 SE 30 LabChip Kit. This instrument will be used to determine size and quantity of DNA fragments ranging from 100 basepairs (bp) to 5000 bp in length; sampling directly from 96- or 384-well microtiter trays without operator interference (walk-away operation) using a proprietary "sipper" sample access system which eliminates pipetting errors associated with gel loading; and reports the results in a format compatible with Microsoft Excel. This instrument also includes initial chip and reagents for approximately 2000 samples. Analysis of fragments larger than 1000 bp is necessary for investigation of new, rapid microbial genotyping methods and confirmation of cloning constructs. This instrument and its individual components are patented by Caliper.
