- Description
- It is the government's intent to negotiate on a sole source basis with Pangea Phytoceuticals, Inc. 306 E. Jackson, Suite 119, Harlingen, TX 78550. The contractor shall provide the following: 1). Aloe barbadensis (Miller) Gel. The Aloe vera gel used in these studies will be the product obtained solely from the inner parenchematous cells of skinned, mature, fresh Aloe barbadensis leaves. The pulp will be removed from the extracted gel and the product will be lyophilized to 6.0% maximum moisture content. The lyophilate will have a total bacterial plate count of less than 10,000 CFU/gram and be negative for the presence of Coliforms. The pH, alcohol precipitable hexose, malic acid and aloin content of the product will be reported for each prepared batch. Each batch will be assigned a unique lot number. 2.) Aloe barbadensis (Miller) Whole Leaf Extract. The Aloe vera whole leaf extract used in these studies will be the product obtained solely from mature, fresh Aloe barbadensis leaves. The extract will be produced by grinding whole Aloe vera leaves. The extract will then be treated with 23mg/L Cellulase to reduce viscosity and maximize yields. This product will contain not only the inner gel but also the latex of the leaf, which is found in the bundle sheath cells beneath the epidermis. The pulp will be removed from the extract by filtration and the product will be lyophilized to 6.0% maximum moisture content. The lyophilate will have a total bacterial plate count less than 10,000 CFU/gram and be negative for the presence of Coliforms. The pH, alcohol precipitable hexose, malic acid and aloin content of the product will be reported for each prepared batch. Each batch will be assigned a unique lot number. 3.) Aloe barbadensis (Miller) Charcoal-filtered Whole Leaf Extract. The Aloe vera charcoal-filtered whole leaf extract used in these studies will be the product obtained solely from mature, fresh aloe barbadensis leaves. The extract will be produced by grinding whole Aloe vera leaves. The extract will then be treated with 23mg/L Cellulase to reduce viscosity and maximize yields. This product will contain not only the inner gel but also the latex of the leaf, which is found in the bundle sheath cells beneath the epidermis. The product will be treated with 1.0% by weight activated carbon to remove anthraquinone components and the pulp and charcoal removed by filtration. The product will be lyophilized to 6.0% maximum moisture content. The lyophilate will have a total bacterial plate count of less than 10,000 CFU/gram and be negative for the presence of Coliforms. The pH, alcohol precipitable hexose, malic acid and aloin content of the product will be reported for each prepared batch. Each batch will be assigned a unique lot number. The Aloe Vera test material handling, processing and preparation specifications are as followed: the Aloe vera test materials will be the products obtained solely from mature, fresh Aloe barbadensis (Miller) leaves; Lyophilization of the products obtained from mature, fresh aloe barbadensis leaves will begin within a maximum of 6 hours of harvesting the leaves and within 4 hours of filleting; the Aloe vera test materials will be unadulterated, no stabilizers will be added to the products; the supplier will furnish analytical data to support the authentication of the supplied lyophilized Aloe vera test materials as unadulterated products of fresh leaves from the Aloe barbadensis (Miller); the prepared Aloe vera test materials will be stored at-20?aC and shipped to NCTR on dry ice. The contract will be issued for a base period and two (2) 12 month options years. The request for proposal will be available on or about May 28, 2003 on the FedBizOpps website at http:///fedbizopps.gov. Prospective bidders are responsible for downloading the solicitation and amendments. It is the offeror's responsibility to monitor the FedBizOpps website for the release of the solicitation and amendments. Hard copies will be provided to individuals eligible under the American with Disabilities act and the Rehabilitaiton Act upon request.
