- NASA/LaRC has a requirement for Platinum Ceramic Thermistors, calibration services and testing. NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Sensor Systems of Eagan, Michigan who is the only know source available who can meet agency requirements. These components are required in support of the Geosynchronous Infrafed Fourier Transform Spectrometer (GIFTS) project which is ongoing at Langley Research Center. Thermistors from other manufacturers will not work in the space environment temperature range whereas the thermistors from Sensor systems have a heritage of working reliably in similar applications. Sensor Systems is the only manufacturer of thermistors with the wide range of operation (-260 degrees centigrade to +400 degrees centigrade) that meets the required operating temperatures. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 22, 2003. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
