- Description
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), NIH, has a contract with Utah State University, N01-AI-15435 with a performance period of September 14, 2001 through April 30, 2008. The contract is titled ?Animal Models of Human Viral Infections for Evaluation of Experimental Therapies.? NIAID intends to negotiate with Utah State University to utilize their unique animal models and to increase their capacity to test compounds against the following Category A-C Bioterrorism agents: Punta Toro virus in C57BL/6 mice, Pichinde virus in Syrian golden hamsters, Banzi virus in BALB/c mice, Semliki Forest virus in BALB/c mice, and West Nile virus in BALB/c mice. This expansion will not result in a contract extension as this work is expected to be completed within the remaining five (5) year contract period. The original contract was awarded using full and open competition procedures. NIAID intends to negotiate this one-time expansion under authority of 41 USC 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(C)(ii). NIAID believes that Utah State University is the only source with the requisite unique capabilities to accomplish this additional effort. See Government-wide numbered Note 22.
