- Description
- The Department of State, International Programs Division, is seeking qualified laboratories that would be interested in securing Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) designation. Once designation is obtained, the laboratory would work with the Department of State under the Chemical Weapons Convention, a global treaty that prohibits the development, production, acquisition, stockpiling, retention, transfer and use of chemical weapons. Interested laboratories should have, or have the potential to gain, the capabilities to analyze for chemicals listed in the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) Schedules of Chemicals. OPCW designation is obtained by passing three proficiency tests that require the successful analysis of a number of unknown chemical compounds. The OPCW-administered tests are conducted approximately every six months. A laboratory is required to pass one proficiency test per year to maintain OPCW designation. Interested laboratories would be responsible for all costs associated with the OPCW testing and designation. Interested parties should send a letter of interest to James S.
