- The National Institute on General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), NIH intends to negotiate with the Coriell Institute for Medical Research for a five year continuation of the work being performed under existing Contract No. N01-GM-9-2101 for the continued operation of a large, complex and unique project. This project includes the maintenance of 4,000 cells per year and the acquisition of 600 cells with options for additional quantities to total 1,000 cell acquisitions per year, and the preparation of approximately 200 to 800 DNA samples each year. This project requires expertise in establishing, growing and storing human fibroblast and lymphoblast cell lines and rodent-human somatic cells; ability to characterize and distribute these cell lines; ability to obtain samples from investigators and clinical documentation about the cell lines; and ability to prepare, store and distribute high quality DNA samples and cell lines. Authority: 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302-1. This is a reasonable basis to conclude that the NIGMS' minimum needs for the repository can only be satisfied by only one source.
