Description
LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS LICENSEE TO PRODUCE A MINITURE X-RAY SOURCE Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), wants to license the technology to build a Miniature X-ray Source. Researchers at LLNL built a working Miniature X-ray Source having a millimeter scale size, which is small enough to fit into a human body (for example into an artery). The device can produce a broad spectrum of x-ray emissions over a broad range of energies (5-40 keV or higher). The devices? design features the following achievements: ? High voltage in extremely small dimensions (1 mm). ? High vacuum in extremely small volume (cubic mm). ? Extremely small high voltage connector. The Miniature X-ray Source has a number of potential medical applications. These applications include the following: ? Arterial disease ? Restenosis ? Cancer ? Material analysis The device consists of a vacuum housing which is highly transparent to x-rays, a high voltage feed-through, a high voltage connection, an anode, and a cathode (hot or cold). This unit features a rugged design and has practical potential for medical applications. The design of this device resulted in two U.S. Patents; 6,353,658 and 6,134,300. In addition, some foreign rights are available. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in commercializing LLNL's Miniature X-ray Source should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and address. 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact. 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing the this technology. Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO00005-03 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in LLNL's Miniature X-ray Source.
