Description
The VA National Acquisition Center will issue Solicitation RFP-797-NC-03-0011, for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD), as these agencies desire to standardize on one branded high potency 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutarylcoenzyme (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitor, or =93statin.=94 A comprehensive drug class review was completed and resulted in a decision to procure a high potency statin, that has been shown to lower LDL-c by at least 40%. Only data from published, randomized controlled clinical trials, comparing the LDL-c lowering abilities of two or more statins, were considered. The following two drugs met the criteria set by the Medical Advisory Panel (MAP), VISN Formulary Leaders (VFLs), and Pharmacy Benefit Management Group (PBM): =20 Atorvastatin and Simvastatin. =20 The vendor awarded this contract will be listed on the VA National Formulary (VANF) and the DoD Basic Core Formulary (BCF). The formularies also include lovastatin and will include an HMG that is not metabolized through the cytochrome P540 (CYP) enzyme for patients receiving potent CYP inhibitors. =20 It is anticipated that this procurement will require a technical evaluation with price becoming more important as the technical factors become more equal. Strengths and required package sizes will be given in the Solicitation, however, all commercial package sizes are desired. The estimated annual usage is as follows:=20 DoD=92s Est. Annual Usage: 124,509,549 Tablets --=20 VA=92s Est. Annual Usage: 335,871,334 Tablets. =20 Indian Health Service and Bureau of Prisons may submit additional requirements, but the Solicitation will clearly state whether these two agencies are included, and if so, what their additional annual usage is expected to be. The contract period will be for a period of one year, plus four one-year options.=20 Distribution will be through the VA Prime Vendor. The Solicitation will be available for downloading on or about 12/20/02, at the VA office of Acquisition and Materiel Management's internet web site at http://www.va.gov/oa&mm/busopp/sols.htm. Offers will be due 1/20/03.=20 If a hard copy of this solicitation is desired, please fax a request to Deborah Koval at 708/786-5256, or e-mail request to deborah.koval@med.va.gov, and a copy will be sent to you when it issues, on or about 12/20/02. NOTE 12 applies NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (02-DEC-2002). IT ACTUALLY FIRST APPEARED ON THE FEDBIZOPPS SYSTEM ON 24-FEB-2003.
