- The Bureau of Reclamation will be negotiating with McRae and Associates for the delivery of twelve (12) Abb 192 kV rated EXLIM-Q station class metal oxide gapless surge arresters with porcelain tops. The style number shall be Q192XB152A. In 2001 a matching set of three of these surge arresters were purchased competitively. According to a technical bulletin published in 2002, surge arresters on each end of a high voltage cable need to be of the same design. If surge arresters of different types are "protecting" the same high voltage cables the new metal oxide gapless surge arrester will do all of the work. This causes premature failure of the new arresters. All three phases on both high voltage underground cables must be protected by the same type and design as the three purchased in 2001. This purchase will assure that the set of three spares will work in any of the 12 locations currently needing surge protection.
