- Description
- The Navy is seeking sources to manufacture Valve-Regulated Lead-Acid (VRLA) batteries to replace the current flooded lead-acid batteries used in many of the Fleet?s submarines. It is the Navy?s intent to develop a Qualification Requirement in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation Subpart 9.2 for these items. Accordingly, we are currently conducting market research to determine current state-of-the-art and prospective manufacturers. Included in the market research are visits to known manufacturer?s facilities and some ongoing testing of VRLA cells. This testing may be applicable to the establishment of the aforementioned Qualification Requirement. The Navy typically spends roughly $10 - $15 million annually for flooded lead acid submarine batteries. Salient characteristics, physical dimensions and testing regimen are attached for reference. This notice is to invite intere sted parties to provide information and/or test samples to the Navy for evaluation. Test samples would be provided to the Government on a no-cost basis using a Bailment Agreement. Please submit, on or before 13 January 2003, company literature, resumes, references, and any other pertinent information for the Government?s evaluation. Include business status (e.g., small business, small disadvantaged business, HUBZone, women-owned, etc.) and reference N00164-03-R-6918.
