Description
Interested members of the public are invited to attend a briefing on the Preliminary Study for Experimental Research on Culturally Based Education for American Indian/Alaska Native Students being conducted by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) under contract with the U.S. Department of Education (ED) in the Office of Indian Education (OIE) and the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). The tasks in the preliminary study are: 1. To conduct a review of the literature on the effectiveness of culturally based education. 2. To assess the feasibility of conducting an experiment to test the effectiveness of culturally based education for AI/AN students. 3. Option: If feasible, to design such an experiment. 4. To hold a symposium on the experimental design. Should a full-scale experimental study prove to be feasible, in the future, ED may issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for this work. To assure that potential offerors have access to the same body of information about the current preliminary study. NWREL will hold three public briefings to describe findings and progress on the preliminary study. The first public briefing will be held in Seattle, Washington on February 24, 2003, 10 A.M. ? 3:00 P.M. at the following location: Cascade Room Doubletree Hotel Seattle Airport 18740 Pacific Highway S.
