Description
NA Title: PMCD Technology Workshop Date: January 29-30, 2003 Location: Richlin Ballroom, 1700 Van Bibber Road, Edgewood, Maryland Host: Program Manager for Chemical Demilitarization Facilitator: Science Applications International Corporation The mission of the U. S. Army?s Program Manager for Chemical Demilitarization (PMCD) is to safely dispose of the chemical warfare materiel at stockpile and non-stockpile sites. To support this mission, PMCD is actively seeking, monitoring, and evaluating all technologies appropriate for integration into the demilitarization processes. One aspect of this activity is the organization of a Technology Evaluation Workshop to facilitate the exchange of information among experts from industry, academia, and the government. The objective of the meeting is to clarify PMCD?s technical needs and to enable technology owners/providers to present potential solutions. Vendors and research organizations are requested to submit presentation proposals on the following topics: 1. Monitoring of Agent and Non-Agent Emissions: Presentations will focus on the challenges posed by potential new Airborne Exposure Levels (AEL), other expected changes in regulatory monitoring requirements, and the need to detect agent in complex liquid, gas and solid waste streams that include agent hydrolysate and other waste from plant operations and closure activities. Of particular interest are continuous emission monitors, front-end sampling systems, innovative monitoring technologies for multi-age nt detection, and non-invasive agent assessment. 2. Closure of Chemical Demilitarization Facilities: Presentations will include technologies that address the decontamination and disposal phases of the shutdown of a chemical agent treatment plant. Issues of primary interest are secondary waste treatment and disposal, means and verification of equipment and building decontamination, disposal of contaminated equipment, concrete removal and collection, and processing of munitions residues. The format of the workshop sessions will be an overview of the technical need, related vendor and/or research organization presentations, and an open discussion of the issues. Proposed presentations must be submitted no later than COB 29 Nov 02 to Science Applications International Corporation, attention Ms. Ella Bernard, by mail to SAIC, 3465 Box Hill Corp Center Drive, Abingdon, MD 21009, or electronically to ella.m.bernard@saic.com.
