Description
The NOAA Forecast Systems Laboratory (FSL) in Boulder, Colorado is sponsoring a Technology Day on Wednesday, November 6, 2002, to showcase some of the technologies that have been developed over the past several years. The mission of FSL is to transfer new technology and research findings in atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic sciences to other NOAA offices and to users of environmental information. FSL conducts programs to evaluate, integrate, and apply these developments to environmental information and prediction systems. This Technology Day will offer attendees the opportunity to view applications such as FX-Net which is a meteorological PC workstation that provides access to basic display capability of an AWIPS workstation via the internet; LAPS (Local Analysis and Prediction System) which can provide real-time three-dimensional, local-scale analysis and short-range forecasts for operational weather offices and facilities; and, the WFO-Advanced system which provides operational, interactive data display and manipulation capabilities in a distributed workstation environment. The laboratory will also showcase ground-based and upper air observing systems, such as the GPS precipitable water vapor system and wind profilers. In addition, new data distribution and weather product display developments will be featured and provide the attendees with a look at applications that could provide significant assistance to agencies, organizations and companies looking to develop or enhance their weather and data handling capabilities. Demonstrations, presentations and discussion on roughly ten different technologies will be held. For a preview of the technologies that will be on display plus registration, agenda, and logistics information, please access www.fsl.noaa.gov/techday2002. Consider this day as an opportunity to learn about FSL technologies, to foster collaborations and to develop possible partnerships. The point of contact for inquiries is Ms. Rhonda K. Lange, Visitor Information Specialist. Telephone: 303-497-6045, e-mail: Rhonda.K.Lange@noaa.gov. Telephone: 303-497-6045 FAX: 303-497-7429. There is no solicitation.
