- A project in Bryce Canyon National Park, Garfield County, Utah, on the Rainbow Point - Rim Road, UT PRA BRCA 10(3), is tentatively scheduled for advertising in early 2003. This advanced notice is being given as weather and site conditions may prevent contractor viewing at the time of advertising for bids. Representatives from the FHWA will conduct a site visit for this project beginning at 8:00 a.m. on October 17, 2002. Contractors and potential bidders should meet at 8:00 a.m. local time at the entrance sign turnout of the Park Boundary (on Hwy. 63). A formal question and answer session will immediately follow the site visit at the Park Visitor Center, Conference Room D. QUESTIONS WILL ONLY BE ANSWERED DURING THE FORMAL PRESENTATION. Bryce Canyon National Park is located on Highway 63 approximately 433 km (270 miles) South of Salt Lake City, Utah and 404 km (251 miles) Northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. The project consists of grading, drainage, and asphaltic surfacing on 16.333 kilometers of the Rainbow Point Rim Road. The work involves grading, drainage and paving, including: lump sum contractor testing; 18,230 m silt fencing; 7,300 m straw wattles; lump sum watering for dust control; lump sum clearing and grubbing; 102,500 m3 roadway excavation; 8,000 m3 subexcavation; 1,340 m3 placed riprap (various); 1010 m2 MSE earth wall (various); 74,500 metric tons aggregate base; 157,500 m2 recycled asphalt base course (various); 12,500 metric tons roadway aggregate; 2,550 metric tons asphalt cement; 44,000 metric tons Superpave asphalt concrete pavement; 1,050 m pipe culvert (various); 500 m underdrain system; 1,500 m2 sheet drain system; 6,200 Portland cement curb/curb & gutter (various); 440 m guardrail; 1,500 m2 colored Portland cement concrete sidewalk; 160 m pedestrian safety rail; heavy equipment operators; 18,000 m3 placing conserved topsoil; along with associated survey, staking, seeding, mulching, sign installation/striping and traffic control items including traffic and safety supervisor. Draft plans will be available for viewing at the project showing. NOTE: Project plans WILL NOT be available for purchase until advertisement period in early 2003. Minutes will be distributed at the time of advertisement as an appendix to the solicitation. Those planning to attend MUST notify one of the contact persons listed above not later than October 14. Potential bidders are not required to attend in order to submit a bid but are encouraged to do so.
