Description
On or about September 12, 2002, Amendment No. 10 to NASA Research Announcement "Research Opportunities in Space Science" (NRA 02-OSS-01), a draft for comment will be posted on its homepage Web site at=20 http://research.hq.nasa.gov/code_s/nra/current/NRA-02-OSS-01/index.html=20 that establishes a new Program Element A.4.4 in Appendix A. entitled "IN-SPACE PROPULSION TECHNOLOGIES - CYCLE 2 ." This new Program Element solicits comments for the In-Space Propulsion (ISP) program of the NASA Office of Space Science for a pending solicitation to develop advanced propulsion technologies for use beyond Earth orbit that enable or reduce trip times, mass, and/or cost associated with NASA science missions to the outer planets, satellites, small bodies, and other solar system destinations. This phase of the ISP program specifically focuses on the development of the following advanced in-space propulsion technologies that are expected to enable or enhance a wide variety of NASA's science missions: Aerocapture, Advanced Chemical Propulsion, Kilowatt Solar Electric Propulsion Systems, Momentum eXchange/Electrodynamic Reboost (MXER) Tether Technology, Plasma Sails, Solar Sails, Solar Thermal Propulsion Technologies. Comments on this solicitation are due by September 26, 2002.
