Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Precision Engineering Division has a requirement for technical assistance in support of the Atom-based Dimensional Metrology Project. Specific tasks include: 1) Assembly of the new UHV/STM components, 2) Install a manipulation capability enabling transfer throughout the new UHV facility, 3) Continue to develop the diode laser interferometer system, 4) Assist in the implementation of data acquisition hardware and computer control systems for the interferometer, 5) Initiate a new improved capability of nanofabrication using the STM, and 6) Publish the results of the nanofabrication research and the interferometry work in the appropriate forums. NIST intends to negotiate a sole source contract with the University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742. This acquisition is to be accomplished under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) Soliciting from a single source. This purchase order is a continuation of services provided by the University of Maryland. They have provided guidance and essential support in the development of surface preparation methods and STM operation of silicon atomic-crystal lattice counting methods. The continuity of the University of Maryland and their commitment to this effort is essential to the development, progress and continued success of this project. This notice of intent is not a request for quotation. However, interested parties may identify their capability to satisfy the Government?s requirements no later than the indicated response date. A determination not to compete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Contracting Officer. A solicitation document is not available.
