Description
Special Event: Geospatial Intelligence Conference: The Association of Old Crows and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) will co-sponsor a conference addressing "Geospatial Intelligence -- Uniting America's Defense" on November 13-14, 2002, at the Jimmy Hill Conference Center, National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), Chantilly, VA. NIMA is a both a national intelligence and Department of Defense (DoD) combat support agency. Its mission is to provide timely, relevant and accurate geospatial intelligence in support of national security. Geospatial intelligence is the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess, and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. This conference will focus on how NIMA is integrating imagery intelligence and geospatial information and creating this new discipline, geospatial intelligence - so that NIMA can significantly expand the value of the information it provides to its customers. Lt Gen James R. Clapper, USAF (Ret.) has been Director of NIMA since September 2001. He will describe NIMA's vital role in winning the war on terrorism, securing the homeland, and protecting America's other national security interests in the 21st century. Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, NIMA is being called on to apply the tools and expertise that we bring to bear abroad into the United States. The briefings in the homeland security section will concentrate on how, by taking on this Homeland Security mission, NIMA is increasingly supporting not only our more traditional customers, but also a new set of which is more domestically focused. The briefings in the terrorism section will highlight NIMA's crucial role in the campaign against global terrorism. As a national intelligence agency, we are working 24/7 to provide maps, imagery and other information to support our nation's senior policy makers and defense and intelligence agencies. As a combat support agency, NIMA provides input to every military mission in Operation Enduring Freedom. The conference classification is Secret/U.S. Only. The conference chairman is Lt. Gen. James R. Clapper (USAF, Ret.). The agenda will include four sessions. The Office of Corporate Relations will chair Session 1, entitled "Geospatial Intelligence -- Showing the Way," which will include a keynote address by Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge (invited), a briefing by General Clapper on "NIMA Today," and a briefing on "Guidelines for Using NIMA Data." The Office of Americas will chair Session 2, covering Homeland Defense, which will include briefings on the following: an Overview of NIMA Support to Homeland Security; Support to National Security Special Events; Document Exploitation; Support to Domestic Preparedness against Terrorism, Incidents for 120 Cities; Analysis and Support to Critical Infrastructure Protection; and a Panel Discussion on Support to Homeland Defense. Analysis and Production will chair Session 3, entitled "Supporting Operation Enduring Freedom," which will include briefings on the following: Support to CENTCOM; Technical Geospatial Intelligence Support; Pathfinder; Intelligence Analysis Issues; Motion Imagery - briefing and demonstrations of the Motion Imagery Exploitation Cell; and HDTV for military and civilian applications.
