- Description
- DESC: SMALL BUSINESS SOURCES SOUGHT The National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) is interested identifying Small Business organizations having the ability to develop and evaluate scalable, high precision multi-axis robotic aids capable of providing reasonably priced rehabilitation services to individuals with upper and low extremity limitations. The goal of this project is to incorporate the latest neuro-rehabilitation computer software and electrical/mechanical engineering to produce new three-dimensional high precision interventions in varying sizes for upper and lower limbs for use in home as well as clinical settings. Said devices must be able to move a limb passively and safely through a range of motion for an extended period of time. To receive consideration for a contract award, a small business must be able to meet the following prerequisites: 1) Have engineering capacity to develop or obtain and modify existing robots to incorporate no turnable multi-joint movements for specific medical rehabilitation intervention; 2) Have access to trained health care personnel with the ability to access an appropriate patient population, initiate treatment, provide training and evaluate patient progress; 3) Possess skills to develop appropriate software to insure patient safety, user feedback and meaningful clinical profiles; 4) Have a master of human factors or behavioral science in both upper and lower limb movement; and 5) Be cognizant of medical rehabilitation to guide specified interventions for patients recovering from a stroke, broken hip or similar infirmity. Any organization which feels it has the qualifications described above should submit a response (no more than ten (10) pages), including the name of its Principal Investigator and senior participants, business size, availability of and description of facilities, access to patient population, brief summary of proposed robotic machinery, and description of management structure.
