Description

The United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, South Atlantic Area intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source, Biolog, Inc, to provide one 9119 OmniLog ID System for identification of microorganisms to the species level based on carbon source utilization. This system has the following unique features to meet agency minimum needs: 1. The capability to identify at least 800 species of Gram (-) and Gram (+) bacteria, 250 species of yeasts, and 600 species of fungi. 2. Identification must be based on a matrix of nutrient utilization defined by incubation procedures using growth media containing an array of carbon sources. 3. Identification procedures must be done utilizing viable microorganisms to enable subculture from selected carbon sources and the determination of biological fitness of subcultured isolates. 4. The system must be automated due to the necessary transfer of micro plates through sequential data collection intervals. 5. The system must have the ability for data bases to be expandable and customizable. Delivery is required within 8 weeks, FOB Destination to Ft. Pierce, FL. No telephone inquiries will be accepted. Interested parties should submit written responses including prices and technical data identifying where the offered item meets or does not meet each of the Government?s functional and performance minimum specifications listed herein to this office within 15 calendar days after publication of this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government is available. If no affirmative written responses are received, negotiations will be held with Biolog, Inc. without further notice. This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The anticipated award date is September 10, 2002.
