Description
Description: The Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Norfolk Detachment - Washington D.C. intends to award a sole source contract to the Emedicine Communication, Inc 29 Hawthorne Road, Waltham, MA 02451-2911, on behalf of the National Naval Medical Center, Information Technology Services. The contact will be for the Procurement is for purchase of a claimancy license to the eMedicine World Medical Reference Internet-accessible database that will support Navy and Marine Corps healthcare providers worldwide. The purchase will be made as part of Telelibrary. Award will be made to Emedicine because the eMedicine includes thousands of peer-reviewed medical reference articles covering 65 specialties. Additionally, it includes downloadable textbooks for personal digital assistants (PDAs), a high-resolution collection of over 10,000 pictures suitable for teaching lectures, patient education materials, and a personalized education update system that allows users to register to receive automatic topic updates, MEDLINE journal article updates, and weekly quizzes on ECGs, X-rays, and images. Also the continuing education (CE) module. The CE features include: - Articles updated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year - Original content with nearly 10,000 authors and editors - Every known disease and disorder documented - All articles peer reviewed by 4 physicians and a doctor of pharmacy - Over 30,000 hours of medical education credits available - 10,000 Category 1 AMA PRA CME for physicians - 10,000 CEs for nurses - 10,000 CEs for pharmacists Based on market research of the currently available Internet accessible medical reference database products, no other product provides the same level of functionality as the eMedicine World Medical Reference. Emedicine is a proprietary database that is developed, supported and marketed by eMedicine, Inc. directly to end-users. Emedicine, Inc. owns the source code for the database and only licenses the usage rights to the database to end-users. There are no distributors of eMedicine products that could be used as alternate procurement sources.
